Save the right contacts at handover

Ask for the rental company’s support contact, roadside provider and incident instructions. Confirm which assistance is included, any limitations and how to identify the vehicle and booking when you call.

    Prioritise safety and official directions

If a situation is dangerous or anyone needs urgent help, contact the appropriate local emergency services and follow their instructions. Do not continue driving a vehicle that appears unsafe. Let the rental company know your location and what happened as soon as it is safe.

      Keep an accurate record

Ask what official reports or reference numbers are required. Retain relevant photographs and booking details where it is safe to do so, but do not arrange repairs or towing independently without the company’s agreement unless authorities direct otherwise.

        Confirm the next practical step

Ask about authorised recovery, onward travel and any replacement vehicle. Availability and responsibility depend on the agreement; a support contact does not automatically guarantee a replacement or refund. Keep written records of instructions and later charges.

          Your planning checklist

          • Support and roadside contacts
          • Vehicle and booking details
          • Official report requirements
          • Written recovery and replacement instructions

          Frequently asked questions

Should I arrange my own repair?

Contact the rental company and follow official directions. Unauthorised work can complicate the agreement and insurance claim.

          Is a replacement car guaranteed?

Do not assume so. Ask what the agreement provides and confirm actual availability.
