Understand the security arrangement

A deposit, card pre-authorisation and card guarantee work differently. Ask which is proposed, the amount, release timing and evidence provided for deductions. Your bank’s processing time can differ from the rental company’s release timing. Get those terms with the quote.

    What no deposit means

Confirm eligibility for the named car and approved driver before payment. A no-deposit option may have conditions or a separate protection cost. Read it alongside the insurance excess so the absence of a cash deposit does not obscure other responsibilities.

Tolls, fines, excess distance, fuel shortfall and damage charges can remain payable under the agreement. Ask how later items will be notified, documented and settled. Keep both the handover and return reports to clarify any disputed item.

      Close the rental cleanly

At return, agree the mileage, fuel and condition with the representative. Ask for a closing statement and explanation of outstanding reconciliation. Request deposit release confirmation through the verified booking channel. Use dated photographs and your agreement if you need to query a charge.

        Your planning checklist

        • Method, amount and release timing
        • Eligibility for the selected car
        • Separate insurance excess
        • Charge evidence and query contact
