Approve every driver before the keys change hands
The renter and any additional driver should be named and accepted under the agreement. Do not assume that a friend or family member may drive because they hold a licence or travelled with you.
Check each person’s eligibility
Send each driver’s residency status, licence details and the issuing country for review. Different people on the same booking may require different documents or permits. Ask for any age, licence-tenure or vehicle-specific eligibility conditions.
Understand the cost and responsibility
Ask whether adding a driver changes the price, cover or excess. Clarify who settles fines, tolls and damage charges, and how the company records which driver was using the vehicle if an incident occurs.
Manage changes during the rental
If another driver needs to join later, contact the company and obtain written approval before they drive. Keep the agreement and approved-driver details available during handover and return.
Your planning checklist
- Documents for every driver
- Written approval and agreement update
- Any fee or insurance change
- Responsibility for later charges
Frequently asked questions
Can my partner drive the rental without being added?
Obtain approval first. A shared holiday or household does not automatically make someone an insured, permitted driver.
Can I add a driver halfway through the rental?
Ask the team. Approval, documents and any updated terms must be completed before that person drives.
