Self-drive rental or chauffeur: which suits your stay?

Compare a car you drive yourself with a vehicle and professional driver quoted as a separate service.

Start with who is driving

Self-drive puts an approved renter behind the wheel. A chauffeur booking involves a driver, a schedule and a different scope of service. Hotel delivery staff bringing a rental to you should not be confused with a driver who stays for your journey.

    Compare the right prices

A daily car rate does not establish the cost of a transfer or a chauffeur itinerary. For a driver enquiry, ask about operating hours, waiting time, stops, overtime and vehicle availability. For self-drive, compare mileage, deposit, cover, parking and return arrangements.

Match the service to the occasion

A meeting schedule or formal event may call for a driver; a flexible holiday may favour self-drive. Confirm whether your chosen model can be supplied under the requested arrangement. A supercar image on a rental page is not evidence that a chauffeur service is available.

        Get the arrangement in writing

Tell the concierge your dates, passengers, baggage and intended journeys. Chauffeur and transfer enquiries need separate confirmation of availability and the applicable service agreement. Do not make travel plans based on a self-drive listing alone.

          Your planning checklist

          • Who is driving
          • Hours, stops and waiting time
          • Exact car and passenger capacity
          • Written service confirmation

          Frequently asked questions

Does hotel delivery include a chauffeur?

No. Delivery is a handover arrangement. Ask separately whether a professional driver can be arranged for the itinerary.

Can I use a daily rate to price an airport transfer?

No. A transfer or driver service requires its own quote and confirmation.
